The first, in the Church of England, existed from 1540 to 1550, and its only holder was Thomas Thirlby. He sat at Westminster Abbey.

Since 1850 there has been a Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Westminster, with the Archbishop of Westminster sitting at Westminster Cathedral.
