Bowling Green State University

Bowling Green State University (BGSU) is a public, four-year institution located in Bowling Green, Ohio, USA; about 20 miles south of Toledo, Ohio on I-75. It was established in 1910; as of 2003 it boasts a student body of about 20,200. It offers over 200 undergraduate programs, as well as master's and doctoral degrees in a variety of areas, including the nation's first Ph.D. program in photochemical science. In sports, BGSU is a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), and was the 1984 NCAA national hockey champion; its mascot is the falcon. The student operated, independent daily newspaper is the BG News.

McDonald Hall, a dormitory at BGSU, is the namesake for the web comic Mac Hall.

Famous alumni

Writer James Baldwin also spent time at the university, first as a writer-in-residence and later as a temporary professor, from 1978 - 1979.
