Enrique Martínez y Martínez (b. November 10, 1948) is a Mexican politician and member of the Institutional Revolutionary Pary (PRI).
He was born in Saltillo, the capital of Coahuila. On December 1, 1999, he became governor of the state of Coahuila, representing the PRI.
Enrique Martinez y Martinez was sworn in as Governor on December 1, 1999. His electoral victory was. During his first four years in office, Governor Martínez claims to have made good on his campaign promises to improve education and social development, build a high-wage economy and make Coahuila safer by getting tough on kidnapping for example and restoring fiscal prudence. His term runs until noon on November 30, 2005.
Martínez has occupied several posts in the public administration and in the legislative branch. Also he served as a federal legislator on two occasions (1988-1991 and 1997-1999) and, in the Coahuila state government he served as State Secretary (1981-87). He was mayor of the city of Saltillo (1979-1981). He is Mhas been a delegate of the National Executive Committee of his party.
Enrique Martinez earned a University Degree as Economist from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (I.T.E.S.M.); He served as a director and teacher of Economy in the Autonomous University of Coahuila. He was a teacher at the University of Agriculture "Antonio Narro" and President of the National Institute of Public Administration in Coahuila.
He worked in the private sector in his own business as President of the Martínez Enterprises Co.
Governor Martínez and his wife, María Guadalupe Morales de Martínez, by profession a lawyer, have three offspring: Enrique, Eduardo and Ana Sofia.
