Henry Somerset, 2nd Duke of Beaufort (April 2 1684 - May 24, 1714) was the only son of Charles Somerset, Marquess of Worcester, and Rebecca Child . In 1700, on his father's death, he gained the courtesy title of Marquess of Worcester, before this he might held the title of Earl of Glamorgan. On his grand-father's death on January 21, 1700 he succeeded him and became 2nd Duke of Beaufort. In 1713 he was invested as Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.).
He married three times:
- on July 7, 1702 to Mary Sackville , daughter of Charles Sackville, 6th Earl of Dorset, who died June 18 1705, with whom he had no issue;
- on February 26, 1706 to Rachel Noel , daughter of Wriothesley Baptist Noel, 2nd Earl of Gainsborough , who died September 13, 1709 after giving birth, with whom he had issue; and
- on September 14, 1711 - her first marriage -to Mary Osborne , daughter of Peregrine Osborne, 2nd Duke of Leeds , who died February 4 1722, with whom he had no issue.
With his second wife he had two sons:
- Henry Somerset, 3rd Duke of Beaufort his heir and successor; and
- Charles Noel Somerset, 4th Duke of Beaufort his brother's heir and successor.
