Mainit is one of the municipalities in the province of Surigao del Norte, part of Caraga region in the Philippines. It is situated in n the northeastern part of Mindanao. Literally meaning "hot", Mainit has 21 barangays (villages) with about 4.6 thousand households and overall population of about 23,000 (according to the last official census in 2000). It is a town by the Lake Mainit.
