Sachertorte is a chocolate-cake, invented by Franz Sacher in 1832 for Klemens Wenzel von Metternich in Vienna, Austria.
The cake consists of two layers of fluffy chocolate dough with a thin layer of apricot jam in the middle and dark chocolate icing on the top and sides.
There are two official recipes and a legal fight ensued twice between the Viennese pastry shops of Sacher and Demel as to which of them is allowed sell theirs as the "original" Sachertorte.
